Taking football to the next level with our new 3G pitch

Steve Way, Chair of Governors, officially opening the field in front of our football players. In October 2022, we officially opened our stunning full-size artificial grass football pitch, a joint project between the Football Foundation, the school and the Latymer Foundation.

Included in the project is perimeter fencing, LED floodlights, goal storage and spectator areas. It sits on the north side of the school field, close to the boundary with Church Street Recreation Ground, with a buffer zone left to allow existing mature trees and other species of flora and fauna to thrive.

Full view of the new 3G pitchAs Ms Cobbett, Headteacher, explains “our research showed that the local area had a dearth of conveniently accessible, good quality facilities for hire, and it was this that enabled us to secure an amazing grant from the Football Foundation topped up by a generous contribution from the Latymer Foundation. In the last few months, we have already seen what a great asset the new pitch is to the school and its pupils, but also to the whole community around Edmonton. Given the positive impact sports has on people’s physical health and mental wellbeing, we are proud to be able to give local clubs and groups access to this fantastic football facility.”

Latymer Old Boys’ Football Club (LOBFC) are now using the pitch regularly. We are delighted to welcome them back to the school premises. As LOBFC Captain, Matt Cooper explains "After years of nomadic travel across Enfield, we are so proud to finally be back home and using the incredible facilities at the Latymer School. As a club, we regularly use the 3G pitch both for our weekly training and also for competitive matches, which is a real bonus for our players."

The trophy he holds is the Amateur Football Combination's '4 North' Division won by LOBFC’s 2nd XI in 2022. This is the first trophy the club has won in 17 years, a real achievement for them.
